Why would a user have an additional Identity for the 'ClientProxy' adapter?

 

We have a user that has this adapter in their user profile in addition to be listed with our typical XMPP & System adapters.

 

What happens if we delete them from this adapter?

    @kenneth.erickson (Client)​  The ClientProxy adapter usually indicates that the user was created manually via the web console. In general, identities are used to map a user across different adapters (like XMPP, LDAP, etc.), so everything stays linked correctly.

     

    Regarding deletion, it’s recommended to leave the ClientProxy identity as is. It doesn’t cause any issues, and removing it could potentially impact how the user is mapped within the system.

    Thanks. Wanted to be sure it wasn't affecting the user.

    A bit curious why this may have occurred so we ensure what caused this was in best practice.

Users managed via the web console or certain system processes may have the ClientProxy identity, while others created through standard sync may not. As a best practice, it’s recommended to manage users consistently (for example, using one method like directory sync). That said, this identity is expected and does not impact functionality.
